Alaska USA introduces 24-hour loan service

Alaska USA Federal Credit Union now operates its telephone lending service 24 hours per day, seven days per week at (800) 525-9094 or at 563-4567 in Anchorage. The new service joins the existing round-the-clock Internet loan service at Those who apply receive loan decisions within minutes.

Kenai credit bureau closes

After 20 years in business, the Kenai Peninsula Credit Bureau closed Friday. Businesses can now make reports to the Credit Bureau of Alaska at 279-5689 in Anchorage, and consumers can request credit reports from The Credit Bureau Inc. at (800) 727-2893 in Pittsburgh, Pa. Both offices are branches of The Credit Bureau Co.

Spenard Builders hires millwork manager

Spenard Builders Supply has hired Dan Furlong as its Kenai millwork manager. He will be responsible for commercial estimates, residential contract sales and supervising workers who build doors and windows.

Furlong previously was vice president for Doors/Windows Unlimited, where he worked as company liaison and successfully completed commercial construction projects throughout Alaska. He also has served on the Kenai Peninsula Borough space allocation committee and is a former member of the Soldotna Rotary Club, where he served on the board and as president and vice president.

Soldotna chamber announces August schedule

August luncheons at the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce feature House District 8 candidates on Aug. 8, House District 9 candidates on Aug. 15, a tax cap initiative forum on Aug. 22 and Barrette Hatches, president of Enstar Natural Gas Co. on Aug. 29.

Chamber luncheons are Tuesdays at noon at the Riverside House in Soldotna.

Harley-Davidson opens new Soldotna store

Kenai Peninsula Harley-Davidson will unveil the new 2001 model Harleys during the Aug. 12 grand opening of its new store at 41605 Sterling Highway, just south of Big John's Tesoro.

There will be live music from noon until 5 p.m., motorcycle games, contests and prizes. A barbecue catered by Buckets of Soldotna will run from noon until 4 p.m.

Industry Appreciation Day slated for Aug. 26

Industry Appreciation Day will be Aug. 26 from noon until 4 p.m. at the ball fields in Kenai. This year's celebration will honor tourism as well as oil and gas and commercial fishing.
