Summer string festival coming

The Kenai Peninsula Orchestra's Summer Strings Festival will be held Thursday through Aug. 13. It includes a Tutka Bay Cruise on Sunday with a concert by the DeVere Quartet at the Tutka Bay Lodge; master classes at the Ninilchik Fairgrounds on Monday for strings and Wednesday for winds; two gala concerts -- in Soldotna on the 11th and in Homer on the 12th; and a DeVere Quartet Sunday Concert on the 13th at 7:30 p.m. at the Bunnell Street Gallery in Homer. Peninsula state fair slated for Aug. 18-20

The Kenai Peninsula State Fair will be held Aug. 18-20. The Budweiser Clydesdale horses will give a show each day, weather permitting, a parade will be at 10 a.m. Aug. 19, and around noon will be the River to River Run -- a 5.5-mile race from the fairgrounds to Deep Creek to Ninilchik River along the beach at low tide.

Preregistration is at 11 a.m. The Circle 4 Rodeo will be at 4 p.m. on Aug. 19 and 2 p.m. on Aug. 20.

A fireworks display will be at 10:30 p.m. on Aug. 18. Josh Carey, juggler and comedian, will give three shows daily. There will be kite-making demonstrations, clowning classes, a lumberjack contest and clam chowder cook-off. Call the Ninilchik Senior Center for details.
