The Kenai River drainage, except for the Russian River fly-fishing-only area, was closed at 12:01 a.m. Thursday. Fishing for sockeye salmon is closed for the duration of the season, and there will be no time extensions.
This closure includes the Moose River, Funny River, both Killey rivers, Skilak Lake and Kenai Lake as well as all other Kenai River drainages except the Russian. The exception includes the area from markers above the confluence to markers near the power line crossing and the Russian River itself from the mouth upstream to markers at the falls. Anglers in this area can keep three salmon per day and have three in possession at any one time.
