Chamber appreciates support for Soldotna Progress Days

Posted: Tuesday, August 03, 2004

On behalf of the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce board of directors and staff, we wish to thank everyone who contributed time, money and creativity to help make this another successful Progress Days event.

We appreciate everyone who volunteered their time, sponsored the event, entered the parade, the patience of those who live and work along the parade route and all who came to join in the festivities.

We would like to recognize our sponsors: Alaska USA, Great Bear Ford and Unocal. Without sponsors it would be difficult to fund these wonderful community events.

A gracious thank you to our royalty: Marge Mullen, serving as our grand marshal and Mike and Gloria Sweeney as our king and queen. All three of these individuals have contributed greatly to not only the Progress in Soldotna but the celebration itself.

We would like to recognize the VFW for providing Color Guard and setting up and taking down of the review stand, which was provided by Lynden Transport; to Barbara Ruckman for overseeing the volunteer judges; Sammie Cole, Ralph Meloon, Gary Davis, Pete Sprague and Peter Micciche and Shirley Warner for your invaluable help at the judges' stand; Merrill Sikorski, our master of ceremonies who, as always, was exceptional; Kay Lytel, who started the parade with singing the national anthem; the city of Soldotna and Kathy Dawson, Andrew Carmichael and the Sports Center staff and the Soldotna Police Department for all their help and support; Great Bear Ford, Kenai Chrysler Center, Hutchings Chevrolet and Glacier Pontiac for providing cars for the many dignitaries who turned out to help celebrate Soldotna's Progress; the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center for the use of its parking lot and facilities; the Kenai Peninsula Borough for the use of its building and power; Mike Chenault for the time-saving use of his golf cart; the Auto Spa for the use of the garage, parking lot and for the great detail job of the golf cart; and Fred Sturman for the loan of the cover tent for the parade line-up.

Thanks to all the individuals who gave of their time to ensure the success of Progress Days: Ken Lancaster, Charlie and Lori Weimer and Norm and Barb Blakeley.

Also, thank you to those who made the chamber float possible: River and Sea Marine,Scott, Kelly and Hayley Griebel, Angie and Jada Glaves, Jessica Otis, Kayla Hanson and Morgan Lancaster.

Mayor Dave Carey, we can't thank you enough for your love of Soldotna all year long. Mayor Carey awarded the car show winners at the Soldotna Creek Celebration of Sunday.

Thank you to Janette Young, Chet Soares and the Racing Lions for another successful car show.

We cannot thank the staff enough who went above the call of duty: Erica Williamson, judges-coordination; Rebecca Hanson, line-up and float; Shanon Hamrick, vendors and float; Nita Fena, line-up; and Cassie Pulley, vendors and float.

Thank you to the more than 30 vendors who came together to welcome the crowds after the parade. Thank you to the community for sharing in the celebration of Soldotna's 44th annual Progress Days.
