Stop smoking class planned

Central Peninsula General Hospital will hold a seven-week class beginning Thursday to help those who want to stop smoking. The course is approved by the American Lung Association. Cost is $75. For more information, call 714-4778.

Sen. Murkowski to visit peninsula

Sen. Lisa Murkowski will be on the Kenai Peninsula on Friday and Saturday, making official state appearances. She will speak at noon Friday at the Seward Chamber of Commerce at the Harbor Diner Club and attend the soccer jamboree from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the Kenai Middle School soccer fields. Afterward she will attend an event with supporters for the paving of Keystone Drive in Soldotna.

Lawn sale fund-raiser planned

The Church of the New Covenant will hold a lawn sale fund-raiser from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday at the church across the street from the Boys and Girls Club in Kenai. For more information, call Kari Mohn at 283-4258.

KCHS class reunion planned

The Kenai Central High School class of 1984 will hold its class reunion Friday through Sunday. Reunion activities will include a casual gathering from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Elks for $10; dinner at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Paradisos for $25; and a family picnic Sunday at the Green Strip in Kenai for $5. Bingo, dinner fund-raiser set

The Nikiski Senior Citizens Center will host a "Potty Party" spaghetti dinner, raffle and bingo fund-raiser at 1 p.m. Sunday at the center. Cost is $10 for dinner and $25 per packet (12 sheets with six cards per sheet) for bingo. The center also will raffle off a new toilet. The cost is $1 a ticket or six for $5. All proceeds will be used for septic system repairs and upgrades at the center. For more information, call 776-7654.

SoHi swim, diving team begins practice

The Soldotna High School swimming and diving team will begin practice at 3 p.m. Monday at the school. Participants need to have a current and completed sports physical. Athletes do not need to be advanced swimmers to be members of the team. For more information, call 262-7419.

The Kenai Central High School swimming and diving teams will begin practice at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 10. Participants need to have a current and completed sports physical. For more information, call 283-7476.

Youth theater group to perform

The Kenai Performers Summer Theatre camp will perform "The Wind in the Willows" at 7 p.m. Aug. 12 through 14 at the Old Town Playhouse in Kenai. Music and new lyrics are by Douglas Post, and Carol Ford will direct. The cost is $8 for general admission and $6 for students and senior citizens. Volunteers needed for auction

The Boys and Girls Club is seeking interested community members to help with its 17th annual auction fund-raiser. Volunteers are need to make telephone calls, pick up donations, decorate, set up tables, chairs and auction items and also for cleanup. For more information, call Kim Lee at 283-2682.
