The Terminal

Posted: Thursday, August 03, 2006

Two hours before high

water covering fish who lost their lives

when caught on a previous tide

now baked in the sun with a scorched hide

Oh why fish the terminal, Oh why

It’s plainly disgusting wanton waste

no time for fisherman with any taste

to be uncorrupted by this place

only greed and anxiety to race

Oh why fish the terminal, Oh why

We ve been fishing right for years

til our board gave us these tears

to satisfy the Kenai sport guide

rather than the dipnetter’s side

Oh why fish the terminal, Oh why

Over escapement will be the end

or raise the goal and just pretend

Kenai’s fishery won’t suffer

when you raise the buffer

Oh why fish the terminal, Oh why

The politically rich

laugh as we inch

close to the mouth of Kasilof

cutting her kings right off

Oh why fish the terminal, Oh why
