JUNEAU (AP) -- A Ketchikan man suffered multiple injuries from a beating aboard a sailboat, the Coast Guard said.

A rescue boat crew responded to a call from Jim Weems, 48, aboard the 25-foot sailing vessel Tamure at 7:54 p.m. Weems reported chest pains and breathing difficulties.

The crew found Weems severely beaten. He told crewman that he had grounded the sailboat. The boat's owner,

Thomas Moore, 33, of Ketchikan became angry when he returned from a hunting excursion ashore, and the two fought.

Weems suffered possible broken ribs, a lacerated right ear, and kidney and back pain. He was taken to Ketchikan General Hospital.
