'Once Upon the Kenai' reprints nearly sold out

In less than a month, the 500-lot reprint of the local history book, "Once Upon the Kenai" has nearly sold out. The Kenai Historical Society delivered its last box to vendors last week. The historical society has ordered another 500 books to meet future demand.

The book, originally published in 1984, contains hundreds of photos and first-person stories from people who lived on the Kenai Peninsula's west central region in 1962 or before, including excerpts from the diary of big-game guide Andrew Berg and a rare document showing signatures and brief statements from 80 Kenai men who fished or worked in the cannery during the 1934 season. Another section of the book deals with short histories of some of the area schools, churches and civic groups.
