JUNEAU (AP) -- A cruise ship passenger was rescued early Friday after becoming lost on Mount Roberts behind downtown Juneau.
Marcel Theroux, 48, of Ontario, Canada, was found by local rescue teams near the 1,500-foot level of the mountain after being lost more than 12 hours. Theroux was unharmed but was taken to Bartlett Regional Hospital as a precaution, Alaska State Troopers said.
Theroux became lost while hiking Mount Roberts Trail on Thursday afternoon and was reported missing after he failed to return to the Dawn Princess by 7 p.m., said Greg Wilkinson, trooper spokesman.
A search was suspended because of darkness at about 2:30 a.m. Friday. Theroux was spotted by a helicopter at about 7 a.m. and a rescue workers descended from the craft and walked the man to safety.
Theroux and his wife plan to fly to Skagway to be reunited with their two daughters on the cruise ship, he told the Juneau Empire.
