Space still available in basketball camp

A basketball camp for boys and girls is scheduled for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at the Nikiski Middle-Senior High School. Camp for children ages 9 to 12 will be from 1 to 3 p.m.; and camp for children ages 13 to 18 will be from 4 to 7 p.m. The camp fee is $10 per player.

Cooper Landing library to host auction

The Cooper Landing library will host an arts and crafts auction Saturday at the Cooper Landing Community Club. The silent auction will be at 6:30 p.m., and bidding for the regular auction begins at 7 p.m. Many homemade items, including quilts, tablerunners and carvings, will be available for purchase. Nikiski volleyball tryouts scheduled

Tryouts for the Nikiski High School volleyball team will begin at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 11 and 12 in the gym. Participants are required to have a current sports physical prior to the first day. For more information, call coach Bruce King at 262-9501.

Boy Scout leaders to gather in Kasilof

The Tustumena Scouting District has planned a fall barbecue from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 14 at the Johnson Lake group picnic area. All leaders in the Tustumena district area, including cubs, boy scouts, explorers, ventures and committee chairs are invited. Attendees are asked to bring their own meat; the district will provide the rest.

Watershed Forum to host speaker

The Kenai Watershed Forum will host Liz Jozwiak, biologist from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 16 the Kelly Peterson Lakes. Jozwiak will explain the research slated to begin on loons and trumpeter swans in the area.

The forum has canoe space for 10, or participants can provide their own canoe. Preregistration is required. For more information, call Josselyn at 260-5449.

Social Security rep to visit peninsula

A representative from the Social Security Administration will be on the peninsula. Sessions will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Seward City Council chambers; from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 20 at Kenai City Hall; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 21 at the Homer Senior Citizens Center. Team building training course planned

The Foraker Group will offer a training session designed to help nonprofit organizations build effect teams from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 22 at the PRISM Training Center, 450 Marathon Road in Kenai.
