Kenai Fire Department Capt. James Dye sends water into a home on Haller Street during a fire Tuesday. The call came in just after 11:30 a.m., and when fire personnel arrived three minutes later, the house was fully engulfed, said Kenai Assistant Chief Michael Tilly. No one was home at the time of the fire. "Fire was coming out of every window," Tilly said. "Basically, it was a defensive fire. About four minutes after we arrived, the roof collapsed." Part of the home was under construction, which led to a fast, hot fire, Tilly said. Kenai responded with an engine and a ladder truck, a squad and a utility vehicle. Nikiski Fire Department also responded to the call with an engine. The cause of the fire is under investigation. The house was a total loss.
