Meet and greet fund-raiser slated

The Peninsula Young Republicans will host a Meet and Greet fund-raiser at 6 p.m. Aug. 12 at the Kenai Merit Inn.

The event is for area Republican candidates for State House Districts 33 and 34, State Senate District Q and candidates for the U.S. Senate and Congressional races.

Diabetes class set

A two-hour diabetes education class will be held at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Ninilchik Senior Center. Interested community members, family members or friends of someone with diabetes are encouraged to attend. Bette Seaman will instruct. There is no fee. For more information, call (907) 567-3988.

Beekeepers meeting planned

Community members interested in beekeeping are invited to attend a organizational meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Aug. 11 at the Sterling Senior Center. Topics of discussion will be wintering and organizing a peninsula association. There will be a general question-and-answer session. For more information, call Rosey at 262-6084.

Celtic program scheduled

An Croi Irish Heart, a celebration of the Celtic spirit in song, dance and drama, will begin at 7 p.m. Aug. 19 at Christ Lutheran Church, Mile 1/4 of the Kenai Spur Highway in Soldotna. Donations will be accepted. For more information, call 262-4757.

Tickets available for soup supper fund-raiser

Tickets for the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank's eighth annual Soup Supper and Auction are available at the food bank. The Soup Supper will be held Aug. 27 at Kenai Landing on Cannery Road.

Participants will select a handmade soup bowl donated by the Kenai Potters Guild and other local potters. The raffle prize is round trip airline tickets for two to Honolulu, courtesy of Hawaiian Vacations.

The cost is $35 per person for dinner, $50 for dinner and a raffle ticket, or raffle tickets can be purchased separately for $20 per ticket. For more information, call Cameron at 262-3111.
