Emergency order closes fishing in some areas

An emergency order from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game will close fishing in the western subdistrict south of Redoubt Point at 7 p.m. today. The regular schedule of Mondays and Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. will resume.

North peninsula council to meet

The North Peninsula Community Council will meet today at 7 p.m. in the Nikiski Senior Citizens Center. All residents of the north peninsula are invited to attend. For more information, call Fred Miller at 776-3257.

Grand opening planned for clinic

Caring Hands Services will hold a grand opening today from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the office in the Bridges building on Kasilof Lane off the Sterling Highway in Soldotna. Caring Hands Services will provide holistic therapy for individuals, couples and families with mental health, substance use and stress- or illness-related issues.

Chamber seeks spotters

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce has spotter positions available for the Kenai Chrysler Open Pro-Am golf tournament Saturday and Sunday. For more information, call the chamber at 283-7989.

KCHS swim, dive team practice to start

Practice for the Kenai Central High School swim and dive team will begin Aug. 12 at 11 a.m. All athletes need to bring a physical. For more information, call Will at 283-7476.

Boys and Girls Club looking for participants

The Boys and Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula is looking for fourth- through eighth-grade boys and girls interested in playing flag football from mid-August to the end of September. Registrations will be taken at the club in Kenai Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 283-2682.

Scholarship being offered by auxiliary

The American Legion Auxiliary Ninilchik Unit No. 18 will award one continuing education scholarship for $500. The scholarship is open to a veteran or family of a veteran who is resident of the Kenai Peninsula and is continuing their education to further their work skills or to reenter the work field. This scholarship is not intended for high school seniors. Applications must be received on or before Aug. 25.
