Burn ban imposed on western Kenai Peninsula

Posted: Tuesday, August 05, 2003

ANCHORAGE (AP) The state Division of Forestry has imposed a burn ban on open burning on the western Kenai Peninsula.

The division announced the ban Monday. It takes effect immediately.

About three weeks ago, the division instituted a similar ban but left Peninsula areas south of the Anchor River and the Fox River drainage exempt. The new ban covers those areas as well.

Once there is significant rain, anyone with a burn permit can call the activation number on the permit to learn whether burning restrictions have been lifted.

Meanwhile, the suspension allows campfires and burns in approved containers. But anyone who lights such fires must follow strict guidelines.
