Pottery on sale

The Kenai Potters Guild will sell clay works from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai Fine Arts Center in Old town Kenai. There also will be a wheel-throwing demonstration in the Potters' Studio. For more information, call 283-7040.

Kids' art workshops planned

Stephanie Cox will offer two-day art workshops for kids at the Kenai Fine Arts Center in Old Town Kenai.

On Monday and Tuesday, exploring color using paints for kindergarten through third-graders will be offered from 10:30 a.m. to noon. On Wednesday and Aug. 12, Georgia O'Keefe painting will be offered for fourth-graders on up from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

Each workshop costs $40, plus tax per child.

Logo contest announced

The Kenai Peninsula Orchestra is looking for a new logo, something simple, legible and eye-catching with a maximum of three colors that easily can be converted to black and white.

The designer will receive free tickets to all 2005 KPO concerts. Send entries to KPO Logo Design Contest, 315 W. Pioneer Ave., Homer, AK 99603. Entries are due by Aug. 31.

Art funding awards offered

The Rasmuson Foundation is offering an Individual Artist Awards program that will provide financial awards to individual artists living and creating in Alaska. There are three award categories:

Project awards: Awards of up to $5,000 for emerging, mid-career and mature artists for specific, short-term projects that have a clear benefit to the artist and the development of his or her work.

Artist fellowships: $12,000 awards for mid-career or mature artists to focus their energy and attention for a one-year period on developing their creative work.

Distinguished artist: $25,000 annual award for an artist of recognized stature with a history of creative excellence and accomplishment in the arts.

The awards are intended to give artists the resources to concentrate and reflect on their work, to immerse themselves in a creative endeavor and to experiment, explore and develop their artistry more fully.
