You probably won't believe this, but I've come to the conclusion that I am what you might call a "high maintenance" golfer. You see, the weather has to be just right.
If it's hot and humid my golf game dissolves along with my artfully arranged coif. If it's too cold and windy, my game freezes up and my nose runs. These small yet mighty annoyances detract from my ability to focus on the actual game.
So to my match cup partner, it's really not my fault that we're not in the upper echelons of the winners this year. (Those are only two of my well-researched excuses I've got a million of 'em!)
Our fearsome and focused seniors let nothing deter them. Low net team members with a score of 28 were Chuck Obendorf, Gordon Brisco and Roger Jones. Mo Redford and George Collum swept in with closest-to on Nos. 6 and 8, respectively.
The league's last "official" game day is Aug. 30, but that won't stop them either; not too late to join in.
Talk about excuses: Our men of Wednesday evenings are still swingin' and singin'. Last week's team winners Pat McElroy, George Stein, Guy Hayes and Dave Kirkvliet had George S. to thank for winning the chip-off to beat out Gary Stackhouse, Tom Maloney, Mike Azzara and Andrew Mills.
Dave K. came in closest-to on No. 6, as did Eric Boudrequx on No. 8. Tony Azzara had best winnings for longest drive and a pure birdie.
This Saturday is the Soldotna Elks Charity Tournament. Tee-off at 8 a.m. Call the clubhouse for more info it's never too late.
Our prestigious Bassackwards Tournament is slated for Aug. 21. If you haven't joined us in any other tournament, this is one you can't possibly miss out on. Way too fun ... way.
That's all for this week. See you on the front nine. (Possibly the back, too, if I can find that air-conditioned golf cart I keep hearing about.)
