The Post 20 Twins Junior Varsity dropped its first game 3-2 to Service in the Alaska State American Legion Tournament Sunday afternoon at Mulcahey Stadium in Anchorage.

The Twins now go to the losers bracket in the double-elimination tournament and will play this evening against the loser of the Chugiak vs. East game, played late Sunday. Game time is at 6 p.m.

The Twins took the early lead in Sundays Service game, with one run in the bottom of the first, according to coach Lance Coz. Service responded with single runs in the second, third and fourth innings.

The Twins got their second run in the seventh and threatened again with a man on third and two out.

"Wally Ward was on, Kyle Foster hit one to third, and it was a close play (to put him out) at first," Coz said.

Offensively, Coz said three players stood out; Quincy Bird went 1-3 with a double; Justin Payment was 2-3; while David Newby was 2-3 with a double.

Defensively, Norton Dablemont started and went six complete innings, allowing three runs on seven hits, giving up no walks. Payment came on in relief for the seventh, retiring the Service side three up, three down.

If the Twins win tonight's game, they will face Service again on Tuesday for the championship but must beat them twice to win the tournament title.
