Burn permit suspension lifted

The Kenai, Kodiak Area of Alaska State Forestry has lifted the burning permit suspension for small, hand piled, permitted burns only. Permit holders must call the phone number listed on the permit each day prior to lighting a fire. Permits are not valid during windy conditions.

Senator forum to be held at Kenai chamber

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will host a meet the candidates for U.S. senator forum today at noon at Paradisos. Mike Aubrey, Thomas Higgins, Theresa Obermeyer and James Sykes will be present.

Extended immunization hours to be offered

The Kenai Public Health Center will offer the following extended hours for back to school immunization clinics: Friday, Monday, Aug. 14, 16, 19 and 21 at 630 Barnacle Way in Kenai from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m., Aug. 20 at the same location in Kenai from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and Monday, Tuesday, Aug. 15, 20 and 22 in Soldotna at the Elks Lodge, 44560 Parkway, from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m.

Normal hours will resume Aug. 26. For more information, call the center at 335-3400.

Nikiski volleyball tryouts planned

Tryouts for the Nikiski High School volleyball team will be Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until noon at the high school gym.

Caregiver meetings scheduled

The Family Caregivers Outreach and Support Program will hold its monthly care-giver meetings Aug. 21 at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center from 2 to 4 p.m., Aug. 23 at the Homer Senior Citizens Center at 1 and 7 p.m. and Aug. 28 at Tyotkas Elder Center, 1104 Mission Ave. in Kenai, at a time to be announced.

Mushroom workshop postponed

The mushroom workshop planned for Saturday has been postponed until Aug. 31. Spend the day with Dominique Collet collecting mushrooms at various locations and then identifying them at River City Books. Bring a cardboard box with a flat bottom for collecting. The program is free.
