ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The state medical examiner has concluded that Bishop Michael Kaniecki of Fairbanks died of a heart attack.

Bishop Kaniecki collapsed outside a church in the western Alaska village of Emmonak Sunday, shortly before he was to say Mass and administer the sacrament of confirmation.

Medical Examiner Dr. Michael Probst said Monday that Kaniecki's symptoms, described by health aides, were consistent with a heart attack. Probst said an autopsy would not be necessary.

A viewing will be held Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at Sacred Heart Cathedral in Fairbanks. A wake will be held Friday evening at the Holy Family Chapel in Fairbanks.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Cathedral and burial will follow at Birch Hill Cemetery.

A reception will follow the burial at the Catholic Schools Gym of Fairbanks.
