Clarion story did not do Kenai Crewsers justice
I appreciate the Clarion doing an article on the Kenai Crewsers Rowing Club. There was a bit of misinformation in the story. I felt that it carried the impression that the team consists mostly of housewives. I'd like to clarify that:
a) The team includes some very accomplished male and female athletes. Also, most of the members are professionals in their fields of work who make time in their busy schedules because they have a passion for rowing;
b) Four rowers are scheduled to travel to Australia in October for international competition (not just thinking about it, as the article intimated), and;
c) Several of the team will travel to Seattle for a regatta in November -- our main competition is not Anchorage, as was stated. Every year we travel to the Lower 48 to compete in regattas.
Additionally, sculling is not spelled with a "k," our board president Lori Landstrom's name was misspelled, our coach is not just now "taking over the helm" on a permanent basis, she was hired for the summer (but has been here all summer) and will leave for a fall job sometime in mid-August.
We'd love to provide more information on rowing to anyone who's interested. It's a great sport! You may contact us via email@example.com or 283-4389 or 262-6037.
