Power outage affects thousands in Soldotna

Dinner was probably a little late getting to many Soldotna families' tables Friday due to a nearly 30-minute power outage that happened about 4:30 p.m.

According to HEA spokes-person Joe Gallagher, the outage was caused by contractors clearing trees at a private residence near the Central Peninsula General Hospital expansion site on Marydale.

In the process of clearing the lot, a tree was uprooted and fell across a power line, pulling it down, Gallagher said.

"It was a private contractor," he said.

No one was injured.

A HEA crew responded and had power restored to the estimated 2,000 residents affected by the outage within 30 minutes, Gallagher said.
