Bingo, dinner fund-raiser set
The Nikiski Senior Citizens Center will host a "Potty Party" spaghetti dinner, raffle and bingo fund-raiser at 1 p.m. today at the center. Cost is $10 for dinner and $25 per packet (12 sheets with six cards per sheet) for bingo. The center also will raffle off a new toilet. The cost is $1 a ticket or six for $5. All proceeds will be used for septic system repairs and upgrades at the center. For more information, call 776-7654.
Blood drive slated
There will be a blood drive held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday at Jerry Ward's headquarters in the Peninsula Center Mall. Recent blood recipient, Charlie Short will be available to meet donors. Participants must between the ages of 18 to 72 or 17 with a signed parental permission slip, weigh at least 110 pounds, be in good over all health and not have donated blood within the past 56 days. SoHi swim, diving team begins practice
The Soldotna High School swimming and diving team will begin practice at 3 p.m. Monday at the school. Participants need to have a current and completed sports physical. Athletes do not need to be advanced swimmers to be members of the team. For more information, call 262-7419.
Nominating petitions available
Nominating petitions for the Oct. 5 regular city of Kenai election are available until Aug. 16 at the city clerk's office at 210 Fidalgo Ave. Seats up for election are the mayor and two council members. For more information, call Carol at 283-7535, ext. 23.
Social Security reps to visit area
Social Security Administration representatives will be on the Kenai Peninsula from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 17 at Seward City Hall; from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 18 at Kenai City Hall; and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 19 at the Homer Senior Citizens Center. Fox Island cruise fund-raiser set
Kenai Peninsula United Way will hold a Kenai Fjords Fox Island Cruise fund-raiser at 2 p.m. Sept. 12 in Seward. The cost is $50 per person and includes the afternoon cruise to Fox Island and dinner.

Volunteers needed for auction
The Boys and Girls Club is seeking interested community members to help with its 17th annual auction fund-raiser. Volunteers are need to make telephone calls, pick up donations, decorate, set up tables, chairs and auction items and also for cleanup.
