Posted: Friday, August 08, 2008

Can you believe more than one day of sunshine, wow! Hello and welcome to the Bird Homestead Golf Course, located 11.8 miles out Funny River Road.

Folks, if you have not been out to this course, you do not know what you are missing! Our crew, along with Mother Nature, has been so good to us. This course is in top-notch condition, the fairways and greens are beautiful. Play has been phenomenal. So come on out and test out your clubs.

Our weekly play has kept going, and for our Tuesday night men's night we had 13 men out and enjoying the beautiful weather.

On Wednesday morning Seniors, we had a great mixed crew. Some of them had to fib on their age, but hey, let's just play golf. Come on out Tuesday nights at 6:30 for men's night and Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. for the seniors.

Aug. 1 was the tournament for the Funny River Festival. What a great way to kick off the festival. Players out and teams picked. There were two teams tied for first place, so a chip-off was in order. And the competition was on.

Pat Bird beat out, you guessed it! Roy Bird. The team members just set back and watched the show. First place turned out to be Pat Bird, Tom Chadwick and Allen Dettmer, second place went to Jack Kimmer, Jeff Gillman and Roy Bird with third place going to Dick Galloway, Larry Hamilton and Tom Webb.

Closest to on No. 6 went to Allen Dettmer, with not one woman reaching the green. Long drive men went to Tom Chadwick and long drive women went to Pat Bird. Thank yous go out to Elmer and Pat Bird, Wells Fargo Bank and Jersey Subs for their support of this tournament.

Saturday and Sunday is the VFW Fishing/Golfing Tournament. Fish on Saturday and golf on Sunday. A fun weekend for all, so call and check out all the details at 260-4653. The teams will be drawn on Friday so you will know who you will be fishing with. Call now or come on out to the course.

Aug. 17 will be the first Bears Den Tournament. I will get more information out next week. Call and sign up for a cart and we will get you all the scoop.

Come on out, check out this course. Remember Thrifty Thursdays. Two for the price of one. See you on the fairways.
