Police seek man in attempted kidnapping

Posted: Thursday, August 09, 2001

ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A 13-year-old boy fended off an apparent kidnapping attempt Wednesday night in east Anchorage.

Police said a man got out of a pickup truck and told the boy that the boy's father had sent him to pick the boy up and take him home.

The boy did not recognize the man and asked for the family password. When the man said he did not know the password, the boy walked away.

The man grabbed the boy by the shirt but he was able to break away. The boy told police the man continued to follow him as he was climbing a fence so the boy picked up a stick and hit the man.

Police describe the suspect as 25-35 years old, white, thin, with black hair and a goatee. The man was wearing a black rock band T-shirt and faded blue jeans.

The suspect was driving an older model red Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck. The first letters on the license plate may have been ''DRT.'' Police said the truck had front-end damage near the headlight assembly.
