Glacier Mushing thrills visitors and local residents alike

It's been called a triple adventure, "The Ultimate Mushing Experience," by CNN news, yet, three years ago Godwin Glacier Dog Sled Tours was only an idea of dog musher Lorraine Temple. Today Temple's idea offers visitors an exotic combination of a helicopter flight to the 3,400 ft level of the Godwin Glacier, and a summer dog sled ride across ancient ice overlooking Resurrection Bay. "

There are always puppies for the guests to play with in the glacier snow

We have 100 huskies up there and it's been phenomenally exciting. The dogs really are the key players, and we actually helicopter them up by sling," said Temple. The business had to receive special use permits for the unique tour from the U.S. Forest Service, which closely regulates the operation. "We operate under a flight pattern that assures we do not impose on the natural surroundings, our footprint is very small on the glacier, and we pack out every speck of dog waste by helicopter," added Temple, who earned her degree in environmental studies.
