Hospital entrance closed

The entrance to Central Peninsula General Hospital on Marydale is closed due to construction. All traffic is directed to the rear entrance of the hospital on Fireweed near the helipad. The closure is expected to continue through Friday.

Additional announcements for road closures may be made within the next few weeks.

Self-defense class offered

A self-defense class for women titled “Rape Aggression Defense (RAD)” will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. today through Friday and from 9 a.m. to noon and 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday at the Aspen Hotel in Soldotna.

The course will be taught by Brigham Young University campus police officers with head instructor Randy O’Harra. Women ages 14 and older may attend. The cost is $40 (proceeds after base costs will be donated.) Preregistration is suggested. Class size is limited to 50. For more information, call Kath Carlson at 283-0858.

SoHi holding registration

Soldotna High School will hold registration for the 2006-07 school year from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday.

Volunteers needed for run

The LeeShore Center is seeking volunteers to help with its 19th annual Kenai Peninsula Run for Women at 10 a.m. Saturday. Volunteers are needed to staff water tables and serve lunch. The race starts at 10 a.m. Warm-up begins at 9:30 a.m. For more information, call 283-9479.

CPHC seeks board members

Church begins formal meetings

Chili contest planned

Fraternity to celebrate anniversary

The Beta Sigma Phi of the Central Peninsula will celebrate the 75th anniversary of its organization from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 27 at Etta Mae Near’s home at 37305 Lancashire Lane in Soldotna. The reunion is open to past and present members. For more information, call 260-6401.

Radiothon set to go

The 22nd annual KSRM/LeeShore radiothon fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 11 on KSRM radio 92 AM. Cash and in-kind donations pledged during the fundraiser will support the LeeShore Center’s services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and the agency’s community and school prevention programs. Pledges may be made during the radiothon or by mailing them to the LeeShore Center, 325 S. Spruce St., Kenai, AK 99611.

School supplies sought

Blessings Galore, a nonprofit clothing closet, is holding a back-to-school drive for school supplies. Donations of backpacks, glue (sticks and regular), scissors, pens, pencils, notebooks (spiral and binders), socks (all sizes), underwear (packaged), notebook paper, erasers, rulers, etc., will be given out free of charge to families who are in need. Items may be dropped off between 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday at College Heights Baptist Church at 44440 Kalifornsky Beach Road in Soldotna.
