Beautification committee meeting canceled

The city of Kenai Beautification Committee scheduled for today has been canceled. The next meeting will be held Sept. 14. For more information, call Carol at 283-7535.

Beekeepers meeting planned

Community members interested in beekeeping are invited to attend a organizational meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Sterling Senior Center. Topics will be wintering and organizing a peninsula association. There will be a general question-and-answer session. For more information, call Rosey at 262-6084.

Depression seminar slated

Healthy Communities-Healthy People will host an update on treatment of pain and depression from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in room 132-135 at Kenai Peninsula College. C. Norman Shealy, M.D., PhD, will be the featured speaker. The cost is $10 at the door.

Shealy is the founding president and CEO of Holos University Graduate Seminary and professor of energy medicine. He is the author of 285 publications, including 21 books. He also developed the concept of transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation.

Soroptimists plan golf tourney

The Soroptimist International of the Kenai Peninsula will hold its annual chip away golf tournament at 8 a.m. Saturday at Birch Ridge Golf Course in Soldotna. All proceeds will benefit women with financial needs on the peninsula with cancer. The fund will be administered by Central Peninsula General Hospital. WRCC to host annual run

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center will hold its 17th annual Kenai Peninsula 5- and 10-kilometer Run For Women at 10 a.m. Saturday in Kenai. The deadline for in-person registration is Friday and at 9 a.m. on Saturday. The cost is $15 or $20 on the day of race.

Preregistered racers can pick up their bib, T-shirts and promotional items from 1 to 5 p.m. Friday at the lower level of the Seaman Building entrance at 601 Frontage Road in Kenai.

The WRCC is seeking volunteers to help with water tables and directing traffic for the race. For more information or to volunteer, call 283-9479.

KPBA plan picnic

The Kenai Peninsula Builders Association will hold its annual members picnic at 2 p.m. Saturday at Soldotna Creek Park. All members and their families are invited to attend. There is no cost. For more information, call 283-8071.

Tickets available for soup supper fund-raiser

Tickets for the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank's eighth annual Soup Supper and Auction are available at the food bank. The event will be held Aug. 27 at Kenai Landing on Cannery Road.

Participants will select a handmade soup bowl donated by the Kenai Potters Guild and other area potters. The raffle prize is round-trip airline tickets for two to Honolulu. The cost is $35 per person for dinner, $50 for dinner and a raffle ticket, or raffle tickets can be purchased separately for $20 per ticket. For more information, call Cameron at 262-3111.
