New administrators join Kenai Peninsula Borough School District

This year's focus is communication

Posted: Sunday, August 11, 2002

Dear parents and community,

Welcome back to the 2002 school year. Hopefully this has been an awesome summer for enjoying the many activities Alaska has to offer. It seems like with the Art Institute, After the Bell program, Summer School, Fine Arts Camp, baseball, soccer and other sports, that summer was just a blur of good times for many.

This year we will be transitioning 18 new administrator positions at our schools. Many of the "new" principals are really experienced principals and community members who have moved to new assignments. Please introduce yourself and welcome the new administrators to their roles.

We are excited about the many prospects for the year. We will be working hard this year to communicate information to parents regarding student achievement so that everyone can clearly understand how their child is doing based on the Alaska Standards. We also will continue to expand those partnerships that provide additional opportunities for students. In these times of declining revenue, it seems that the best answers are right in our own back yard, and by working together, we can improve the quality of education for all. One of the ways we are going to "work smarter" is by meeting with PTA presidents and site council chairs early in the year to share ideas between and among schools.

Thank you for trusting us with your children. We understand and celebrate our role in making school an interesting and enlightening place to be. We appreciate all that you do as we work together in "Educ-ating the Peninsula."
