A Soldotna youth died early Saturday morning after the car he was driving collided with a Carlile Trucking commercial vehicle near Mile 89 Sterling Highway.

Nicholas J. Allen, 17, was driving a Mercury Topaz with two passengers when the accident occurred around 5:45 a.m. Allen may have fallen asleep at the wheel and crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic, stated a press release from the Alaska State Troopers.

Allen was pronounced dead at the scene. His passengers, Trevor Kennedy and Christine Marinkovvski, both 17, of Soldotna, were transported to Central Peninsula General Hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. Marinkovvski was listed in stable condition at 7 p.m. Saturday and Kennedy was treated and released. The driver of the truck, Dean R. Jensen, 58 of Anchorage, was uninjured. All parties were wearing seat belts. Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
