Soldotna High School will hold registration for the 2006-07 school year from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 2:30 p.m. today.

Senior center to celebrate anniversary

The Soldotna Senior Citizens Center will celebrate its 20th anniversary at 1 p.m. Saturday at the center at 197 W. Park Ave. Guest speakers, refreshments and a rededication ceremony are some of the planned events. It is open to the public. For more information, call 262-2322.

Deadline for fair quilts looming

The Kenai Peninsula Quilting Guild will accept quilt entries for the Kenai Peninsula State Fair at the following locations: Seams To Bee in Homer and Robin Place Fabrics in Soldotna from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday; Alaska Cooperative Extension office in Soldotna from 10 a.m. to noon Aug. 14; and the Ninilchik fairgrounds from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 14. Rock, alpine gardens to be discussed

Central Peninsula Master Gardeners will host a presentation on creating rock or alpine gardens at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kenai Visitors and Convention Center. David Hale is the feature speaker. A $5 donation is requested. For more information, call 262-5824.

Agrium continues live fire training

Agrium Kenai Nitrogen Operations will continue its live fire training from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays through August at the plant at Mile 21 of the Kenai Spur Highway. Additional sessions will be held at 7:45 a.m. Thursdays. Occasional smoke and flames will be visible from the highway. For more information, call Rick at 776-3162.

Nutrition classes held at food bank

Subsistence Eating on the Kenai nutrition classes are being offered free of charge from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesdays for six weeks at the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank at 33955 Community College Drive Soldotna.

Participants who attend four classes may enter to win a prize. Colleen Sonnevil of the Cooperative Extension Service will instruct the class. For more information, call 262-3111.

Car seat check ups set

Safe Kids Kenai Peninsula and Central Central Peninsula General Hospital will hold free car seat checkups at the Kenai Fire Department from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday and Soldotna Fire Department from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 25. For more information, call 714-4539.

Chili contest planned

The 14th annual chili cook-off will be held in conjunction with Industry Appreciation Day on Aug. 26. The deadline to register is Aug. 23. Up to four members are allowed on a team. For more information and contest rules, call Pat Porter at 252-5992.

Fraternity to celebrate anniversary

The Beta Sigma Phi of the central Kenai Peninsula will celebrate the 75th anniversary of its organization from 2 to 5 p.m. Aug. 27 at Etta Mae Near’s home at 37305 Lancashire Lane in Soldotna.
