Soldotna High School will have its home football opener on Friday at 6:30 p.m., while Skyview will travel to play Seward at 6 p.m. On Saturday, Houston will host Kenai at 2 p.m., while Nikiski will make the long trek to Barrow for a 1 p.m. tilt.
The Alaska State Cup started on Monday in Kenai, with teams from the Kenai Peninsula Soccer Club playing seven games and winning two of them.
In Under-12 girls, the KPSC Rowdies topped the Fairbanks Eclipse 2-1. The other win came at U-13 girls, where the KPSC Riptide notched a 3-1 victory over the Mat-Su Polaris. The other KPSC girls team, the U-15 Synergy, suffered an 8-0 loss to Velocity Blue.
The KPSC boys teams all were shut out. At U-18, the Spitfire lost to the Alaska Rush (Anchorage) 3-0. At U-16, the Snipers lost to the Alaska Rush 6-0. At U-14, United lost to the Fairbanks Phoenix 1-0. At U-12, the Falcons lost to Velocity Blue 1-0.
Today, KPSC has the following games: U-13 girls at 8 a.m. at the Kenai Sports Complex, U-12 girls at 10 a.m. at Kenai Central High School, U-18 boys at 10 a.m. at the Kenai Sports Complex, U-15 girls at noon near Kenai Middle School, U-16 boys at noon at Kenai Sports Complex, U-14 girls at 2 p.m. near Kenai Middle School, and U-13/14 boys at 4 p.m. near Kenai Middle School.
