FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A suspected methamphetamine lab in the basement apartment of a hair salon has been raided by state drug enforcement agents, according to Alaska State Troopers.
The apartment tenant, Robert McGee Jr., 39, was arrested on a probation violation during the raid Thursday, troopers said.
If the chemicals seized test positive as methamphetamine materials, McGee could face felony charges of operating a meth lab, possession of unlawful chemicals and possession of methamphetamines, according to Alaska State Trooper Sgt. J.R. Roberts, head of the local drug enforcement unit.
Roberts said the raid was the result of tips and surveillance.
Agents showed up at McGee's door at 10 a.m. wearing breathing masks. But the chemical odor seeping from the apartment was so strong agents had to wait an hour until the dwelling was ventilated before going in, Roberts said.
