ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A 17-year-old Soldotna boy was killed in a head-on collision on the Sterling Highway, Alaska State Troopers said.
Nicholas J. Allen died when the Mercury Topaz he was driving crashed into a Carlile Trucking semi about 5:45 a.m. Saturday. Allen apparently fell asleep at the wheel and the Topaz crossed into the oncoming lane, troopers said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the semi, Dean R. Jensen, 58, of Anchorage, was not injured. Two 17-year-old passengers in the Topaz, Trevor Kennedy and Christine Marinkovvski, both of Soldotna, were treated at Central Peninsula Hospital for unspecified injuries.
Troopers said everyone was wearing a seat belt and alcohol is not believed to have been a factor.
