Nurses offer back-to-school shot clinics
The Kenai Public Health clinic is offering extended hours for back-to-school immunization clinics.
Clinics will be open in Kenai at the new clinic at 630 Barnacle Way, Suite A, today, Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 to 4 p.m., and in Soldotna at the Elks Lodge at 44560 Parkway off the Kenai Spur Highway during the same hours today, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Bring a copy of your child's shot record with you. All children younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Registration under way at area schools
The first day of school for students in the Kenai Peninsula Borough School District will be Aug. 22. Most school principals and secretaries already are back to work.
All new students and their parents need to attend registration sessions or contact individual schools to make other arrangements. In addition, some middle and high schools request that students come in for check in procedures such as locker assignments.
Several peninsula schools have registration this week.
Chapman Elementary -- Register between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. any weekday through Friday.
Kenai Alternative High -- Call 283-7844 for an appointment.
Kenai Central High -- Register today or Tuesday between 8 a.m. and noon or between 1 and 3 p.m.
Moose Pass -- Registration opens today and continues through Aug. 21; hours are 8 a.m. to noon.
Nikiski Elementary -- Registration will be open today and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Nikiski Middle Senior High -- Register today or Tuesday between 8 a.m. and noon or between 1 and 3 p.m. This does not include seventh-grade students transferring from Nikiski Elementary or North Star Elementary. Their records have already been transferred to the middle school.
All returning students who wish to make changes in their class schedules may come to the school Tuesday, same hours as above. Picture IDs for all students will be taken Tuesday.
Ninilchik -- Registration for new students will be today from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday will be scheduling for students in grades seven to 12 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
North Star Elementary -- Register today or Tuesday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Sears Elementary -- Register today or Tuesday between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Skyview High -- New students register today and Tuesday, 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and noon to 3:30 p.m.; Aug. 20, check-in seniors from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and juniors noon to 3:30 p.m.; Aug. 21, sophomores 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and freshmen noon to 3:30 p.m.
Soldotna Elementary -- Register today and Tuesday, from 9 a.m. to noon and 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
Soldotna High -- Today and Tuesday, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (new students and freshman); Thursday, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Friday, 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. (grades 10-12).
Tustumena Elementary -- Registration will be open today and Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Club seeks kids to play ball
The Boys and Girls Club in Kenai needs more flag football players for their soon-to-start league. It is open to all students in grades four through eight. Register at the club anytime between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. today through Wednesday.

Social security visits scheduled
The Social Security Administration of Alaska is traveling around the state this summer.
Representatives will be in Kenai Tuesday and Sept. 19 at city hall from noon to 4 p.m., and in Homer Wednesday at the senior citizens center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
