Borough taxes to be discussed at meeting

The Kenai Peninsula Borough Sales Tax Subcommittee will meet today at 1:30 p.m. in the Borough Building on Binkley Street in conference room C.

SSA representatives to visit peninsula

Representatives from the Social Security Administration will be in Seward Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the city council chambers and in Kenai Wednesday from noon at 4 p.m. at city hall.

Food bank to hold hunting classes

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank will hold two classes in preparation for moose hunting season. Larry Lewis of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game will teach a class on basic hunting protocol and safety Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. and one on field care for big game Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. Both classes will be held at the food bank on Kalifornsky Beach Road. CARTS advisory board to meet

Central Area Rural Transit System Advisory PARTNERS will meet Wednesday at 3 p.m. at the CARTS office, 43530 Kalifornsky Beach Road. For more information, call 262-8900.

DAV to meet

Disabled American Veterans will meet Thursday at 6 p.m. at the former NAPA building on the Kenai Spur Highway. For more information, call 776-7080 or 283-4359.

Red Cross to hold classes

The American Red Cross of the Kenai Peninsula will hold a basic first aid and CPR class Aug. 21 and 22 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Cook Inlet Aquaculture Building on Kalifornsky Beach Road. There is a $65 fee. For more information or to register, call 262-4541 or send an e-mail to

Donations needed

The Independent Living Center needs donations of wheelchairs, bath benches and assistive technology for those with hearing or vision loss. For more information, call Laurel or Heather at 262-6333.
