Family fishing tourney Saturday

A family fishing tournament to help raise funds for the Christian teen organization Young Life will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at Johnson Lake near Kasilof.

Young Life is a multi-denominational organization for kids, which encourages youth to become involved in their churches.

Families fish as a team and submit their five best fish to determine the winners. Each child is required to be accompanied by a licensed adult fisher. Teams will compete for merchandise prizes.

Church, club and business teams also may enter a separate business event, which requires an entry fee. Winners will split the entry fees.

Entries will be accepted on the day of the event. For more information, call 260-4174.

Sabbath celebration planned

Erev Shabbat, evening of the Sabbath, will be celebrated by MoAdim Messianic Fellowship at 6 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Kenai Merit Inn Petroleum Club.

The event will include dinner and will feature special guests from Indigenous Messengers International.

Bible study schedule announced

The women's ministry of Kenai Christian Church has announced its 2004 Bible study classes for the fall.

Already under way are Wednesday evening classes titled, "Lord, I want to know you," by Kay Arthur.

Beginning Sept. 9 from 9 to 11:30 a.m., the group plans "Precept Upon Precept, I Corinthians, part 1;" "Fresh Start My new identity in Christ;" and "Believing God, Part 1" a Beth Moore study.

Beginning Sept. 9 from 6 to 8 p.m. will be, "Precept Upon Precept, I Corinthians, part 1;" "Believing God, Part 1" a Beth Moore study; and "First Place Seeking God's best."

Beginning Sept. 11 from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. will be "Believing God," a Beth Moore study.

Child care is available for infant to kindergarten-age children. The deadline for required registration is Aug. 18. For more information, call the church at 283-4559.

Women's prayer group to meet

Nikiski Aglow, a praise, Bible study and prayer group for women meets every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Nikiski. For more information, call Bev Berdahl at 776-8022, Sharon Nowell at 776-5803 or Wanda Nichols at 776-8691.

Family worship offered

Peninsula Grace Brethren Church on Kalifornsky Beach Road offers "The River at Grace" worship experience for the whole family Thursdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m.
