Couple to give worship concert

Dave and Barb Anderson, from Phoenix, Ariz., will present a worship concert at Soldotna Bible Chapel at 7 p.m. Monday.

The couple survived a plane crash in the Bering Sea in 1993 while returning from a humanitarian and Christian ministry mission in the Russian Far East. Now they tour the world, performing a blend of contemporary, gospel and traditional music with Minneapolis pianist Dale Pust.

Teen writers sought

The Clarion is seeking students from Nikiski, Kenai, Skyview and Soldotna high schools interested in writing for its Verbatim column. The column is designed to let teens voice their opinions on topics of interest to them — school, family life, dating, politics, etc. Verbatim will be printed in the Wednesday Schools section beginning Sept. 6.

Students in grades nine through 12 are eligible to submit a writing sample. The column length is 500 words minimum, 700 words maximum. The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. Aug. 24. Send a writing sample to For more information, call 335-1241 or e-mail

Beautiful yard nominations sought

The Soldotna Chamber of Commerce is seeking nominations for its beautification awards program for residential and businesses property. The program will run through Aug. 31. Winners will be announced at weekly chamber luncheons, receive a $25 gift certificate, and a picture of the winning landscape will be published in the Peninsula Clarion.

Nominations should include a name, address and phone number and may be faxed to 262-3566, e-mailed to or dropped by the chamber office at 44790 Sterling Highway.

Radiothon set to go

The 22nd annual KSRM/LeeShore radiothon fundraiser will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sept. 11 on KSRM radio 92 AM. Cash and in-kind donations pledged during the fundraiser will support the LeeShore Center’s services to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault and the agency’s community and school prevention programs. Pledges may be made during the radiothon or by mailing them to the LeeShore Center, 325 S. Spruce St., Kenai, AK 99611.
