Kenai Public Health Center is taking appointments for immunizations. In Kenai, appointments are available Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Soldotna High School registration will be held Aug. 13 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Soldotna Elementary School - There will be an open house for all students and their parents Aug. 23 at 5:30 p.m.

Volunteers are needed for the 23rd annual Kenai Peninsula Run for Women, scheduled for Aug. 14 in Kenai. People are need to staff water tables, serve lunch and staff safety positions along the race route. Safety volunteers (flaggers) will need to take a short safety course at the Kenai Police Department a few days before the run. For more information, contact the volunteer coordinator at 283-9479.

Kenai National Wildlife Refuge will host a Wild Berry Fun Day on Aug. 20. Wild berry activities and crafts take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Refuge Environmental Education Center in Soldotna. Wild berry snacks and drinks will be available. A free drawing will be held for wild berry products.
Guided berry identification walks will be held throughout the day. For families with younger children, an 1/4 mile walk lasting 30 minutes will take place at 12:30, 1, 2 and 3 p.m. For those ages 10 and older, a 3/4 mile hike lasting 45 minutes will take place at 11:30 a.m., and 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.

A free picnic to honor all who have served in the military will be held from noon to 4 p.m. Aug. 28 at the Kenai Park Strip on Main Street in Kenai. Activities planned are blood pressure checks,, live music, VA reps on site to answer questions, door prizes, VAVs representatives, games for children.

The Great Alaska Council, Boy Scouts of America is having its annual trip through the Kenai Fjords National Park with Major Marine Tours for Labor Day weekend on Sept. 4 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. Tickets are $45 per person. All proceeds benefit the programs offered to the youth participating in local Boy Scout units. All tickets can be purchased from Jodi Stuart at 283-1699 or at 805 Frontage Rd., Suite 109 Kenai now and until August 20. Check in is between 5 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. The boat departs the harbor at 6. Dinner is included in the cost.
On Sept. 11 and 12 the Bike MS 2010 "From Hope to a Cure Ride", a fundraiser that supports multiple sclerosis research as well as services and programs for local people living with the disease, will be held.
The ride will follow a 150-mile, out-and-back course between Hope and Seward along the Seward Highway. The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Northwest Chapter, hosts the event. To register or get more information, visit www.bikeMSnorthwest.org or call 1-800-344-4867.

The Boys & Girls Club of the Kenai Peninsula is taking registrations for high school basketball. The season runs from Sept. 13 to Nov. 5.
