FAIRBANKS (AP) -- The dean of the University of Alaska Fairbanks School of Fisheries and Ocean Sciences has been appointed to a newly-created position.
Vera Alexander will become special assistant for fisheries and ocean science policy. Until then, she will continue her job until a replacement is found.
Alexander said much of what she will be doing in her new position is an extension of her job as dean. She's involved in both administration and promotion of the school and marine science on national and international boards and commissions.
Alexander said the new job will provide more opportunities to raise money for fisheries research at the university. Alexander came to the university in 1962 as a doctoral student.
