Fire crews continued work on the west flank of a fire near Skilak Lake on Wednesday, aided considerably by rainfall in the early morning hours.
The Pipe Creek fire started June 14 by a lightning strike between Pipe Creek and Cottonwood Creek.
On Monday, the fire moved to the lake and began threatening the Alaska Wildland Adventures Lodge.
Incident Commander John Winters predicted, however, that the cabin protection effort was expected to be completed Wednesday.
Refuge and Forestry officials will continue to monitor the fire closely.
