Armed robbers strike

Posted: Friday, August 15, 2003

Two armed robberies were reported to Soldotna police within an hour of each other late Wednesday night.

Just before 11 p.m., a woman called police and said three males had assaulted and robbed her male companion near the Soldotna water tower above Marydale Avenue.

Allegedly armed with a knife, the robbers took more than $200 from the man and fled in a car. The man was taken to Central Peninsula General Hospital, where he was treated and released. Police declined to provide more detailed information about the injuries and the robbery pending completion of their investigation.

About an hour later, a teenage female called police from a pay phone outside Safeway saying three males armed with a knife took more than $800 from her and shoved her out of a car. The assault and robbery reportedly occurred somewhere between the Kenai River Center and Safeway. The girl was uninjured.

Police Sgt. Todd McGillivray said suspects have been identified in the robberies and police are hoping to make arrests soon. No further information was available by the Clarion's deadline.
