Homer Electric Board member Fred Braun resigned from the utility company's board of directors Wednesday after 21 years.
"I wish the HEA board of directors only the best of luck and cannot begin to express my deepest thanks and gratitude for being allowed to represent the members of this fine co-op," Braun said following the Aug. 12 board meeting where he made his announcement.
Braun was first elected to the board in 1982 to represent District 3 members in Kenai and Nikiski. He served as board president twice during his tenure once from 1989 to 1990 and again from 2000 to 2001.
Braun also was Homer Electric's delegate to the North-west Public Power Association and was a delegate on the National Rural Telecommunications Co-operative.
"For more than two decades, Fred Braun has taken a leadership role in guiding Homer Electric Assoc-iation toward its goal of providing reliable, competitive utility service to our members," said current board president David Carey.
"In addition to his utility expertise, Fred's positive attitude and friendship were greatly appreciated by the entire board."
The board accepted Braun's resignation and thanked him for his service. Carey said the board will appoint someone to fill Braun's seat. The seat will be on the ballot in the next regular Homer Electric election next spring.
