Shabbat service planned tonight

The Jewish congregation of Kenai and the Lubavitch Jewish Center in Anchorage are presenting a Friday evening Shabbat meal and service at 7:30 tonight at the Barsis home in Sterling.

Two Lubavitch rabbis from New York and New Jersey will be present and the event will include songs, stories and lively discussions as well as homemade food.

The event is free but reservations are required. Call Jackie or James at 262-0849 to R.S.V.P. and for directions to the Barsis home.

Operation Winter Warm-up under way

Operation Winter Warm-up is under way at the Kenai Christian Church at the Kenai Spur Highway and McKinley Street.

Winter clothing from infant-sized to adult will be distributed free at the church from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 23. For more information, call 283-4559.

Women's Bible study offered

The women's ministry of Kenai Christian Church is offering women's Bible studies beginning Sept. 4.

Sessions will be on Thursday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Thursday evenings from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday mornings from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Child care will be available Thursdays, but children must be preregistered with Gospel Garden no later than Aug. 24.

Friendship closet open Wednesdays

The Aurora Heights Assembly of God "Friendship Closet" is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesdays to meet people's clothing needs.

The clothing closet is located at the church on the corner of McGahan and Marie avenues, near Mile 27 of the Kenai Spur Highway in Nikiski. For more information, call 776-8723.
