History: The Connections home-school program is a way for the district to reach out to families who choose to home-school their children. The program provides computers for students to use in their studies, as well as teachers to help parents plan curriculum and individual learning plans for their students.

Demographics: The Connec-tions program currently serves more than 700 students, with an additional 130 students using correspondence courses. Partici-pants in the program are 90 percent Caucasian, 1 percent Hispanic, 2 percent Asian-Pacific Islander, 1 percent American Indian and 4 percent Alaska Native. About 2 percent of Connections students experience disabilities, and 10 pecent come from economically disadvantaged homes.

Staffing: The Connections program staffs a full-time administrator, plus seven teachers to help parents plan curriculum. Five support staff workers help maintain the program.

AYP: While a high percentage of Connections students pass assessment tests, participation rates were low in 2002-03 and 2003-04, making the program miss AYP both years.

Cocurricular: The Connec-tions program does not sponsor sports programs, but students are eligible to participate at other district schools. The program does occasionally form teams for academic competitions.

Registration: Families may register for the Connections program through Oct. 15.
