It currently is under-capacity, serving about 340 students in grades three through five.
Demographics: The student population of Mountain View is 84 percent Caucasian, 1 percent Hispanic, 2 percent Asian-Pacific Islander, 1 percent American Indian and 12 percent Alaska Native.
About 12 percent of the students experience disabilities, and 45 percent come from economically disadvantaged homes.
Staffing: Mountain View Elementary has a full-time administrator, 14 regular-education teachers, one specialist allotment and two special education teachers. There also is an almost-full-time special education aide, a .75-time nurse, a secretary and three custodians. The teachers at Mountain View have a combined average of nearly 15 years experience with the district.
AYP: Mountain View Elem-entary School did not meet adequate yearly progress in 2002-03. While 79 percent of the overall student population passed language arts tests, and 76 percent passed math, passing percentages for students with disabilities were significantly lower (35 percent, language arts and 39 percent math).
In 2003-04, the school made AYP with 85 percent of students proficient in language arts and 78 percent proficient in math. In the students with disabilities subgroup, proficiency rates were still a bit low, but math scores came in within the statistical margin of error and the subgroup showed enough improvement in language arts for the school to meet Safe Harbor requirements.
Cocurricular: Mountain View students can participate in intramural sports programs and several academic activities.
