Dan and Goldie Johnson will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary Tuesday, Aug. 17, 2010. An open house for friends and family will be held today, Sunday, Aug. 15, from 1 to 6 p.m. at the couples homestead at Mile 28.5 of the Kenai Spur Highway. Attendees are asked to bring memories and stories to share.
Dan and Goldie met while serving in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II at Torney General Hospital in Palm Springs, Calif. The couple were married Aug. 17, 1945, in Phoenix, Ariz., after a two-week courtship.
They have lived on their homestead since 1957 where they owned and operated Johnson's Excavating & Landscaping for more than 45 years.
They have three children -- Michael Johnson of Nikiski, Debra Douglas and her husband, Michael, of Fayatteville, Ark., and John Johnson and his wife, Tami, of Nikiski. They also have 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
