Nikiski resident Charles "Charlie" Joseph Varano died at his home on Saturday, Aug. 11, 2001. He was 69.
A visitation will be held on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Peninsula Memorial Chapel in Kenai. A memorial service and wake will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the American Legion Hall in Kenai. His family will spread his ashes along Wik Lake.
Mr. Varano was born July 7, 1932, in Shamokin, Penn. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. Mr. Varano moved to Alaska in 1986 and lived in Nikiski. He worked for Peak Oilfield Services, VECO and APC. He was a member of the Catholic faith. Mr. Varano also was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed fishing and cooking.
Mr. Varano is survived by his daughters Gay Varano, Mary Collandra and Lisa Varano; brother, Al Varano; sisters Helen Bogush, Gloria Scrow and Dorothy Schickley; grandchildren Danielle, Jessica, Courtney, Cody, Tara and Austin; and great-grandchildren Karah and Brendon.
Arrangements were made by the Peninsula Memorial Chapel.
