The campus nature trail at Kenai Peninsula College, located on college drive in Soldotna, will be named in honor of retired instructor and naturalist Boyd Shaffer Saturday.
A dedication ceremony will take place at the trailhead at 10:30 a.m. and a reception honoring Shaffer will follow in the KPC commons.
Shaffer recently retired from KPC after more than 25 years of service. Shaffer's book, "The Flora of South Central Alaska: A Handbook for Field Identification of Common Lichens, Mosses, Liverworts, and Vascular Plants," much of which was researched along the KPC nature trail, was published in 2000.
Autographed copies of Shaffer's book will be available at the dedication ceremony.
