Family: Married to Karen Decker-Brown RN, currently enrolled in a family nurse practitioner program. Son, Chalon(11) at home. Amberly (19) is attending college in Utah, Brandon (22) attending college in San Diego, Kenneth (26) resides in Anchorage and oldest daughter, Kathleen lives in Washington.
Occupation: Retired Alaska State Trooper. Currently owner-operator small trucking business. Consultant for Major Motor Vehicle Crash Investigations
Education: Graduated from Sitka High School, 1967, enlisting in the US Navy SeaBees, served 15 months in Vietnam, assigned to the 1st Marine Division Public Works Facility and served remainder of the four-year enlistment in Kansas and Texas. Numerous schools and courses associated to law enforcement during service with the Alaska State Troopers.
Successfully completed the Northwestern University Accident Reconstructionist course and certified police instructor in a number of subject areas.
Certified open water diver and instructor for local commercial vehicle truck drivers course.
Organizations and special interests: Former Special Olympics Coach in Sitka and participated with the Special Olympics Mileage Event (S.O.M.E.) run. In 1998 was the coordinator for the South Anchorage Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics.
Belongs to Pioneers of Alaska and the Alaska Trucking Association.
Currently a WEBELOS leader for Boy Scout Pack 266 in Anchorage.
Special interests include dates with my wife, my son's soccer games, visiting with people, fishing and driving trucks.
Previously held offices/experience: Served on the Interior Region Emergency Medical Council. While living in Healy, served on the Community School Committee, then held a position on the Railbelt School Board. Sitka, served for the Police and Fire Commission and was president of the Sitka Little League Association.
Current member of the Bayshore Klatt Community Council.
Expected cost of campaign: Should wear out at least one pair of shoes. I have appreciated the contributions we have received but meeting the people in our district by going door to door has been most enjoyable.
