ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Here is a partial listing of the hunting seasons opening around Alaska, listed chronologically:
August 1:
--Sitka blacktail deer seasons opened in the Kodiak Archipelago, Game Management Unit 8; Prince William Sound, Game Management Unit 6; and most of Southeast Alaska, Game Management Units 1-4. Caribou hunts open on the east end of the Alaska Peninsula, Game Management Unit 9A; and in Bristol Bay drainages in Game Management Units 17 and 19.
August 10:
--Dall sheep seasons opened in most of Alaska.
--Bow-and-arrow hunts for moose open in most of the Susitna Valley, Game Management Unit 14, and on most of the Kenai Peninsula, Game Management Units 7 and 15.
--Caribou season opens in the eastern Alaska Range, Game Management Unit 16. Caribou seasons open in the rest of Game Management Unit 19, the Kuskokwim River drainage.
--Ptarmigan and spruce grouse seasons open in most places statewide.
August 20:
--Moose seasons open in the Susitna Valley and on the Kenai Peninsula.
August 25:
--Ruffed grouse season opens in Game Management Unit 20D in the Tanana River drainage in the Interior.
September 1:
--Moose season opens in the Nelchina Basin, Game Management Unit 13, north of Anchorage and for Alaska resident hunters on much of the Alaska Peninsula, Game Management Unit 9.
--Caribou season opens on the central Alaska Peninsula, Game Management Unit 9D.
--Waterfowl seasons open in most of the state.
September 5:
--Moose season opens in the small part of Chugach State Park open for general hunting.
September 7:
--Ruffed grouse seasons opens in the Matanuska Valley, Game Management Unit 14C.
October 15:
--Registration hunts for mountain goats open on the eastern half of the Kenai Peninsula, Game Management Unit 7.
October 23:
--Registration hunts open for elk on Afognak Island, Game Management Unit 8.
